About Us

The Urban Aboriginal School is a very unique partnership between our Board and the local Indian Friendship Centre (IFC). Traditional cultural events and celebrations with the local First Nations community / band offices are practiced throughout the school year. The foods classes prepare healthy snacks and daily lunches to help nourish the students and aid in their daily learning. This school / partnership has a real sense of community and the students who attend feel very comfortable studying in a smaller classroom environment. The Urban Aboriginal School infuses First Nation Cultural values, aspirations and beliefs into all areas of the curriculum. English courses select literature that is culturally based or culturally significant; the foods program and the Outdoor Education program also choose projects and activities designed with native heritage and cultural teachings in mind.
